This is my speech from the 2011-2012 Convocation
held on August 4 at the Macon Centreplex.
Welcome to the 2011-212 Bibb County Schools Convocation! As the Superintendent, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to welcome back all of you to an exciting school year. I am also encouraged by the strong interest and support demonstrated by our community leaders and partners through their attendance today. So, I want to say, “Thank you,” to all of our partners for being a part of this celebration.
Although I began my work as the Superintendent of Bibb County Schools last February, this is my first “official” opportunity to begin a school year with you as your leader. Over the past few months, I have had an opportunity to speak with leaders and staff as I visited schools. I met with parents.
As I spoke with individuals and groups, I learned that we are doing some things that work in Bibb County Schools that should make all of us proud. Most notably, this past May, Mr. Jadun McCarthy was named the Georgia State Teacher of the Year! He is one example of the excellence in our district. During my visits, I met many passionate leaders, committed teachers, and skilled support and auxiliary staff. Ladies and gentlemen, that is a strong foundation to build upon.

had on his life and the impact it has on all children.
District Cabinet meetings, which will include the Deputy Superintendents, the Associate Superintendents and other key district leaders, will be held at school sites on a weekly basis to ensure that direct lines of communication are available between schools and central office.
I have created a Teacher Advisory Team that includes Teachers of the Year from each school site. I will meet with this team once a month.
In addition, I will have time set aside on a weekly basis where I will be available to meet with ANY staff member or community member who would like to meet with me to discuss how we can better serve the students of Bibb County.
Strong, two-way communication, reflecting multiple perspectives, will be the corner stone of our success as we move ahead.
The district level leadership team is committed to serving the students of this district and ensuring that we create the conditions for EVERY child to achieve at high levels.
|I let the community know of my commitment to ensure |
there are open lines of communication between all stakeholders and the District.
Our focus has been and will continue to be ensuring that the system is designed to prepare every child for post-secondary education and to live in a multi-ethnic global economy.
On September 19, all of you are invited to be a part of our first Strategic Planning session.
While we have accomplishments to celebrate, the work ahead is enormous. So my fellow educators, if we are united for change, we can make this an outstanding school year for every student! Thank you for your commitment. Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year!
