When new businesses look at Bibb County as a potential home, one of the key factors to play a role in their decision process is the county’s public education system. The Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority, a body charged with expanding economic opportunity and creating new jobs in the community, understands well the effect that our current school system has on attracting new business. With a ninth-grade cohort graduation rate of 44.6 percent, why would businesses look to settle in Macon? It is for the benefit and growth of this community that we must change the status quo. We must work to educate all children so that they will become productive and successful citizens in this community. The Industrial Authority understands the impact this Strategic Plan will have on Bibb County, and that is why the Authority is standing behind the Plan.
“As the Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority and its partners meet with and recruit new and expanding industries to Macon and Bibb County, there is one question which prospects continually pose: What is the quality and future of public education in Bibb County?” Industrial Authority Chairman Cliffard Whitby says.
“The positive perception of public education, and those leading its future, are crucial to the efforts of the Authority at this time to bring new jobs, tax base growth, and corporate citizens to Macon and Bibb County,” he says.

I wish to thank the Industrial Authority for its support as we work together as a community to develop students who will be successful in a 21st century multi-ethnic global society.
