Regarding Recent Events

I want to take the time to speak to you regarding several rumors and occurrences that took place on one or more of our campuses this week. First and far most, there has been no KKK rally held at any school. There were no "gang fights," arrests for riots, or weapons discovered in our schools. We have experienced racial unrest at one of our middle schools. That school will send out a detailed letter with students tomorrow. We were unable to send it out today because we lacked pertinent information. A "School Messenger" voice mail was sent out from that principal this afternoon to each student's home.  We care about everyone's safety. We will not act hastily and not distribute information without having gathered all facts before investigations are complete. Parents, I am asking you to monitor your child(ren)'s Facebook accounts. Much of the tension and misunderstandings were initiated or perpetuated by students' use of social media. We are asking for your assistance in prevention of such behavior. Thank you for your time.

  1. Take discipline out of the schools and crazy things happen.

  2. Discipline goes way beyond our class rooms and campuses. Is it fair to blame the schools for the misdirections and unruliness of those students that we are expected to educate? I do realize that discipline must be obtained and maintained if we expect our students to take advantage of instructional time. As a parent, it is my responsibility to monitor my children's use of social media. It is my hope that all parents would do the same.

    Thank you for your time.

  3. The district has SAAB (Student African American "Brotherhood") clubs and you post their activities. Do you also have Student European American Brother clubs? This is bizarre and I see no way that this helps with issues of misdirection. Sorry, I disapprove of ANY racially specific club supported by a public school. I know this isn't the same as the KKK, but dismantle the word choices for the club's and you have a "black brotherhood".

  4. I would encourage you to visit the website link that I will post, and I hope that it gives you some insight into your opinion that the organization is for black males only. Additionally, there is a process by which organizations can be created for the betterment (not prejudices) all our students and community.
